I have been there for 3 weeks and it has been an amazing experience. The shop only stocks fabrics that are produced by European designer houses and those that are still produced in Europe not outsourced elsewhere. The labels include Valentino, Ungaro, Verace. Patchwork on Central Park, corner Burke and Wattletree Roads, Malvern, right at the no. 5 tram stop, is the biggest, and it stocks a very extensive range of Liberty lawn as well as other fabrics. Georgie also recommends..... Franke Stuart, 612 Glenferrie Rd., Hawthorn, ph. 9818 1843 for their huge range of bridal and evening. The prices are about normal for each of the fabrics with the occasional "find" but the colour ranges in the basics - silks, satin, chiffon, georgette are great.
Clegs, 60 Elizabeth St., Melbourne is also good for the sheer amount of fabric, good range of evening and bridal.

Zigu Zagu - 7-11 Hill St Richmond. A great source of Japanese textiles. They had a sale on at the time, 40% off textiles. I bought a beautiful silk haori jacket for only $26. They have a huge range of kimono, obi, haori, and also fabric on rolls and off-cuts. regards, Vireya
Update: I personally visited first week in 2010, and they have the most to-die-for Japanese obi width fabrics. These are not cheap, but they are spectacular. I have based 2 of my bag making workshops around these fabrics. Worth a special visit.

HOME FURNISHINGS.

Bekaert are situated at 195 Abbotts Road, Dandenong and they now have a factory shop that is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am until 4pm. Phone number 97991202. Follow the signs when you first enter the gate to take you to the factory shop.
I initially went when they first opened there doors to a one off sale, but are now permanently offering good prices.

Curtaining from $10.00 to $12.00 p/m. Not only to be used as furnishings but also a good weight for jackets and wearable art. Plus the bonus of being 200-240 wide
Napery, Furnishing Fabrics, Sheeting from approx $5.00 to $10.00 p/m . also 240 wide. When I purchased my sheeting a lady was over from Bali, and she was buying hundreds of metres for her holiday resort, so the quality was there. I paid $5.00 per metre for my sheeting.
Bedspread fabric that I have seen in David Jones ( as fully made bedspreads that retails for over $800.00 ) at $20.00 p/m . Heaps of remnants for approx $5.00 per roll and above. The above is the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. It is well worth a visit.
